Introduction - Great Dharma Assemblies

Each year at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, several important Dharma Assemblies are held. These annual events include the month-long Jeweled Repentance Before Ten Thousand Buddhas each spring; the three-week Avatamsaka Sutra Recitation session in the summer; Recitation Sessions dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva, the Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra, and Amitabha Buddha; and the intensive Chan Meditation Session each winter. The value of these sessions cannot be overstated, for they provide opportunities to generate merit, to transfer merit, to increase samadhi, to develop wisdom, and to deepen and broaden our practice in so many ways.

The Master comments about the value of attending a Guanyin Session:

"From limitless eons until the present, we’ve been born and we have died. After dying, we’ve passed through interminable hundreds of thousands of millions of eons without ever encountering a Dharma assembly honoring Guanyin Bodhisattva. We have failed to decrease our bad habits and faults in the slightest, and every day our ignorance and afflictions increase. To now be able to encounter a Dharma assembly dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva means that at this particular time, good roots which we have amassed throughout limitless eons past until the present have ripened and come to maturity. That is the reason we are now able to participate in this extremely subtle, wonderful, and inconceivable Dharma assembly. It’s also possible that if you yourself haven’t planted good roots, that your parents have virtuous conduct, and that they have encouraged you to attend this most wonderful Dharma assembly."
