On Being Attentive to Guests

I’ve reminded you so often to pay special attention to newcomers. But, someone new came, and you don’t even know when he left. There are so many of you here, yet nobody knows when that guest left. That just goes to show that you have skill: You’ve perfected the samadhi of It’s-Not-My-Business.

The problem with samadhi is that you quickly come out of it when it’s time to eat. And when it’s time to sleep, you seem to be in limbo—having neither gotten back into that samadhi nor gotten completely out of it either.
