90.1 On Encouraging New Students

September 2, 1973, Sunday noon

Guo Xian, an American, began his study here at this year’s summer session. And he is already able to write and the Ten Powers and recite them from memory in Chinese. I examined him impromptu this morning when I passed him on the stairs.  “What are the Ten Powers?” I asked. He was not taken off-guard in the least—he just stood there and recited them for me in Chinese!

You think it over. Some of you have been studying here for several years and still cannot remember that list. Isn’t that curious?
