On Lack of Belief

Ven. Master Hsuan Hua

Someone says, “I don’t believe it.” Of course you don’t believe it. If you believed it, you would understand the Buddha’s state of mind. But since you lack sufficient good roots, you fail to believe true principles of the genuine Buddhadharma upon encountering them. Why don’t you believe? It is because your karmic obstacles are too weighty, and because the demons have profound power over you. The demons don’t wish you to believe in the Buddhadharma. If you believed in the Buddhadharma, the demon king’s retinue would decrease, and so they doesn’t want people to believe in Buddhism. Therefore, there is no way for you to believe or understand the mysterious, inconceivable principles of Buddhism.
